About Banner Foods
Outdoor Catering

Banner Foods is essentially a family business, having its roots in the butchers shop founded by Samuel Banner and his wife Kate in September 1906. Today, a retail fresh food shop still thrives on the original site in Bromsgrove. The business is now in the hands of three directors, including two of Sam Banner’s great grandsons. Banners today, however, is about much more than retail butchery.

In 1998 it was decided to diversify into the production of ready meals, using the very latest methods. From the very beginning there was a determination not to compromise the basic principle that has lasted for over one hundred years, that being, to use only the finest ingredients available, including local meat and vegetables.

In 1999 a top development chef was employed with the brief to produce a range of recipes covering all types of meat and meat products.  It would be an understatement to say that the recipes were successful - in that year of 1999, Banners won Meat Product of the year in a national competition organised by the Meat and Livestock Commission and a £10,000 cash prize to be spent on marketing.  Further competition success followed with three Gold Awards at the Three Counties Meat Products Awards in 2000.

In 1999, with the invaluable assistance of Campden and Chorleywood Food Research Association, a European Food Manufacturers License was obtained, allowing the company to appoint distributors for their products.  Today, there are sixteen distributors from Edinburgh in the north to Bude Cornwall in the south, from Carmarthen in the West to Boston in the East. We have four companies covering the south coast, from lands end to Beachy Head, with further representation in Chester, Kendal and Carlisle.

All of our distributors are substantial frozen food wholesalers, servicing all sectors of the catering industry.

In recent years, substantial investment has been made in our manufacturing premises and our production capacity is now several thousand meals per day.  Our basic principle of quality, quality, quality is, however, uncompromised. We do not make cheap food; we make excellent food and sell it as cheaply as we can.

Throughout 2008 and into 2009 we have developed a range of retail friendly packaging for selected products, both traditional meals and our famous baltis.  This allows us to sell to independent retailers, farm shops and direct to the public via internet trading – an exciting and vast new market for the Banner Products.
